Master Details latest release provides some beneficial details for an extremely popular subject, the P-47D bubble-top Thunderbolt. This nifty little set includes a select set of cockpit enhancements ignored or less well represented in other aftermarket sets as well as one of their superb pilot figures. Master Details expands beyond their normal resin-only format to include an extremely clear vacuform canopy. The canopy comes protected in a Styrofoam cover to prevent scratching, a nice touch. Both the windscreen and canopy are presented molded together. Care will be needed to separate them, but a steady hand and sharp knife should get the job done.

Resin parts are included to detail the inside of the canopy frame and crossbar/retraction mechanism. Other parts for the front office include a locking handle, seat sculpted without seatbelts, rear bulkhead and rear deck and a headrest. The rear bulkhead and canopy deck have been ignored by other manufacturers, so they are welcome offerings. While you’ll need to provide seatbelts for the seat, the detail incorporated here is outstanding.
There are a few sizeable casting blocks on the bulkhead and seat bottom, however, it is possible they might not be visible once the parts are installed and should present few difficulties in removing with a regular razor saw, if necessary.

The real bonus is the inclusion of a pilot figure with a new twist in that it is sculpted into the seat This will ensure a realistic fit. Master Details figures are among the best in 32nd scale and this is no exception. A hose for the oxygen mask is also provided. This should be a must for thos seeking to pose their “Jug” in flight. I don’t know whether this should be classified as a detail set with a bonus figure or a figure with a bonus detail set, but anyway you look at it, the Master Details tradition of quality and value is present front and center with this release.
